LEGO Universe Beta Idea!

I had an idea that I've been using over at my forums, and it seems to work pretty well.

Okay, so...

First off, there's a lot of Betas who probably want to discuss Beta information here. But as you know, the NDA restricts that.

Well, how about a Beta-only topic that is only accessible to members of a LEGO Universe Beta Tester group. (Added by one of the admins, of course. )

Now, as for how you would pick Betas out from the rest, you could give them a complicated quiz full of questions that only true beta testers would know.

Then, if they answer all of the questions correctly, you could add them to the Beta group.

In addition, you could further it to include Faction members within the group, but each beta would belong to only one group.

IE, let's say that one user wanted to be considered a faction member, and one did not.

The one that did not want to be a part of a Faction group would take the quiz/test, and be added as a normal beta.

The one that DID want to be a part of a faction would be added to, for instance, the Paradox Faction group. Then, the user would have access to not only the Beta discussion, but also to a sub-topic that would be for Faction-specific discussion.

The Faction Groups are actually unnecessary, and merely a novel idea of mine, but could prove useful. You never know, I guess.

Also, there IS a subforum for LU, it isn't secret, though...

It doesn't necessarily have to.

For instance:

"Who can be found standing next to the AG Survival?"

Or...

"Is Numb Chuck found in-game?"

The Quiz, of course, would HAVE to be sent via PM to any interested participants, to prevent any answers from leaking out.

Yes.

But I've found that few people who like asking for a user's beta key, so that probably won't be an option.

But, if the person in charge of making the quiz doesn't mind, then sure - but it would have to be picture proof, not text, since anyone could go to the old beta signup site and see how many characters there were in a key, then try to fake one.

Another good thing about this is the fact that you wouldn't have to send a message to each... individual... member...

That's time consuming, just like Sim told me.

I like the idea. However I have spent very limited time in beta so i wouldn't be able to answer some of the questions.

Like I discussed with Legodude, Photographic proof of your beta key would also work, if the overseer approved of the method.

It's just... I have been sending out beta-only stuff to everyone on the LEGO Universe group list... and apparently you weren't one so... sorry, it's just that I'll have to stop sending those kinds of PM's to you.

Well....... I think it's a good idea- Yet there are some tecnical things- like that you SHOULD ask for their BETA name & find a time to befriend them, and of course confirm that he/she is he/she
Also, i THINK, am pretty sure, that you have to have LEGO's permission to do something like that- Some people can't take screenshots, so i doth think that should be a recomandation.

Anyway, I WOULD IF I DID IT, make sure they are themseves though in-game chat.

Everyone can take screenies. Even without a third party program, there's the PRNT SCRN button, and the Snippet Tool on newer comps, I believe.

As for asking for permission...

Well, think of it this way-

If this idea, for whatever reason, is denied, then we'll still be in contact via PM. Not much will change, other than the fact that we'll have to go back to PM'ing individual members, which isn't too easy...

It is one reason.

Plus, it'd give betas a private place where they could talk about everything Beta, as compared to having to be restricted as we are now. This would probably help keep the NDA out of public viewing.

well,i hope they approve this.i like the idea.the forums on LMB are slow and almost have the same topics posted again and again.

Again, non betas would be removed from the list if they don't have a beta key, to make sure we don't break the NDA. :-)

(There are still a few non betas in the group right now. )

Yes, but this would be a separate group altogether. Not the same as the LU Group we have now.

Betas aren't the only fans of LU.
That'd be excluding them from a fangroup altogether...

I think enough proof would be just a link to the beta center.

So, the point is that this would never happen anymore if we have a secret place.
NDA, is actually that non beta testers may not know anything from the beta testers. If we move the beta testers to a secret board, non beta testers would not see it. It is better that we can talk in a place where non beta testers can not see anything, that we have to use the boards that are available to anyone or the PM system.
*The PM sytem isn't very much used, because we have top put all the names in the contact fields one by one.

To guarantee that this place would be only used by beta testers and non beta testers wouldn't use this, legofan101 designed a test that only beta testers could fill in, in that way we can avoid that non beta members would be accepted in the beta group.

Additionally, there was a novel idea by LegoFan101, which hasn't been included in this post.

I agree Sim. Also might I add it's 12 yes and 1 no, I think that is enough to say "We (The Staff) Will Make It"

Well, what it is is a Google Docs form. It has about the same questions as the PM test would, only it doesn't have to be typed out each time. The admins or designated test-givers alone can see the results/answers, so nothing changes there.

In the end, it'll have to be up to lindavz and the other staff members, but hopefully they'll move forward with this.

That's much better, legofan101!! A form, yes, then we can check the answers directly and it can give automatically a green box if it's right and a red one if it's not right.
