ACTA Bill... Round 3 of Internet Bill
Pikmin0207 wrote:http://news.techeye.net/internet/secret-acta-bill-shakes-the-web
ACTA bill. This looks worse than SOPA and PIPA combined. This isn't against piracy, this is pretty much SPECIFICALLY targeting US citizens almost intentionally.
So here we go, round 3 of keeping the internet free. yay....
Well here we go again...
Thanks Pik for writing this topic~

Re: ACTA Bill... Round 3 of Internet Bill
The EU?!?!? Seriously, hopefully UK takes the people's concerns and don't allow it to pass as it only takes 1 country to stop an EU bill, like the Lisbon Treaty (which was rejected by Ireland and the bill was forced to go through all the stages again and came back slightly better only the next time everyone was told to vote yes). I honestly think saying it's only against the US is completely wrong there. The fact that it was written without the people's say clearly shows your country isn't as democratic as you once thought. The bad thing for me is half of the Irish government is too stupid to realise that this bill doesn't understand how the internet works nor how some companies e.g in the gaming industry see "Copyright". Most companies do not mind videos or the such of their content as it's free advertisement. This will just give our political leaders power to close any site without proof and will allow our privacy as citizens to be breached if it encourages ISPs to monitor activity, some ISPs did this in the UK and they ended up in court over breaching privacy and guess who won? Eircom in Ireland also monitor activity (I'm with Vodafone Ireland who don't thankfully), Eircom though is endorsed slightly by the government despite being sold a few years ago and becoming a private company.
So yeah the bill basically goes against freedom of speech and breaches privacy more then Google Earth's Street View

That street view thing is weird.
Hopefully someone in Congress will realize that this violates the U.S. Constitution and the bill will be stopped. If not, then we are DOOMED!

This isn't just US. It's various powerful countries.
For you Christians out there, think another step towards World Government.
Some of these "leaders" need to spend a couple years as an average citizen in their own country under the laws they want to impose.

It's called the UN crackers... They did it long before you said it!
This law/legally binding bill is one which was designed by several countries, namely China, US and the EU (I know China and the US but never heard of such discussion in the EU officially). The EU will have to vote on it and all MEPs will be voting if they want to make it EU Regulation, thankfully MEPs are elected people from every member country (including UK) so hopefully they catch on to the fact people don't like it. I'm really only to explain how it would have to become official for us people in the EU. I know China already have a similar law in place for censorships of sites and now the iPad . If it does come into play then you could always proxy to Ethiopia if the law isn't that clever . I seriously don't like the "encourage ISPs to monitor their user's activity" it's a breach of privacy, it's basically like looking into your window 24/7 in today's terms!

Yeah Its the US... Basically they're taking our rights.
Even what Google did they're changing the search to your search results Its like having a stranger go into your house and sit right next to you and watch whatever you do.

No the UN protect the rights, you're blaming the wrong people like a lot of people. The G20 Summit is when they have talks on this kinda stuff. This is private talks between certain countries not the UN. The UN are the ones that made all their members states except the UNCRC and UDHR.
EDIT: The United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Morocco - all of which took part in negotiating the treaty - signed up to ACTA in October of last year.
It's old news guys. Ireland set to secretly sign tomorrow but it still has to be made legally binding in the EU Commission so still hope for us in Europe! Go contact your MEP or EU Commissioner from your country!

To do this in the US, they need to make amendments to the constitution. We are able to live the way we please. I can find the part of the constitution that says it later. I already know that this will be used for something else...
Anyways, I completely disagree with this being passed.

The fact is it already had passed in the US, it's been passed by many Asian countries and is in the process of being completing signed by the EU. The Internet users have lost the most critical round.

With that attitude sure. If we hound our Representatives long enough something is bound to happen.Seemefly wrote:Roddy15 wrote:The fact is it already had passed in the US, it's been passed by many Asian countries and is in the process of being completing signed by the EU.
