Happy Suggestions submitted and Moving Forward

Post by lindavz on Mon Jan 09, 2012 5:21 pm

I've been reading the suggestions and polls that were conducted during the past year. It looks like some portion of members have moved on from MLN, and some still play. Additionally there are some members that would like to broaden their Lego experience beyond MLN.

As I indicated and TTW guessed - I purchased the domain names brickteam.org and brickteam.net and of course I still own mlnteam.net. As I said in the MLNT is not moving topic what was created will not 'go away'. There is certainly a place for MLN users to obtain info, shop and continue to introduce Lego to them.

So...what does that mean?

there are a few options and combinations on how this will happen logistically such as which domain will point to which system. Likely brickteam will be the overarching site with a magazine style website layout. The page will have a link / section to mlnteam.net which will be the mlnteam.forumotion.net. There is also the ability to have forum.brickteam.net to point to mlnteam.forumotion.net and mask the name so that it's transparent and thus only 1 forum for brickteam instead of multiple forums for each grouping.

Be sure to post here in Moving Forward your ideas about how to take mlnt to the next level. Yes I know there are a lot of OLD postings - but I care most about the people that are here now and I'd like to know which ideas you'd like to have under consideration. You can just post a link to the specific post or quote it with a link. I may not be able to implement everything - but I'd like you know that I'll certainly take a look at your ideas and see if it can be done. If not, I'll provide a reason why not or why not now.

2012 brings a time to think about the New Year and resolutions and fresh ideas. Talk to me - I'm listening. (keep in mind though PG isn't something that I can compromise on though).

Thanks,

Lindavz

Well darn, I was hoping for PG forum... Sad I hope you guys will be lenient though when it comes to discussing movies, shows and games that might fall outside the PG range.

PS- Not yet in College. Razz Senior year, gotta "enjoy" that before four more years.

I tried those websites, and the .net one leads to here but the .org one leads to some advertising site.

I only moved the .net and hadn't moved the .org yet. I'll be doing that tomorrow. Wasn't sure which one will be the primary .net or .org

I wish I could - but we need to be an 'everyone' site. As to discussing other things I believe I mentioned before the example of Twilight- when there is a specific scene (I think in the first movie) against a women that includes violence (I think you know which scene I am referring to)- so I wouldn't encourage discussion about that - but saying that you watched Twilight and vampires in and of itself would not be an issue for me. Discussing WOW tactics or Call of Duty tactics wouldn't be an issue unless pics of graphics that included blood or saying 'I want to someone's head off' that isn't specific tactics but is advocating violence. It's up to the individual parent to police whether that game is acceptable in their household. FYI - I don't have call of duty nor have I see Twilight as my son isn't old enough IMO in our household - but it's not up to me to say if it's ok for yours. However we can police the level of violence in general acceptable across all games and it would need to be G rated discussion and description. Does that make sense?

So basically, we can discuss things of higher ratings, just not the things that make them high rating?
Or something like that? Because, isn't that it's always been?

You are correct JDG - that's exactly how it's always been. However people has misinterpreted it before so I thought I would re-clarify.

I should add that it's never ok to discuss sexually explicit, violent or harassing content.

Well for example when I was part of staff, we allowed discussion of M games like MW3 and BF3 (BF3 is slightly more of an odd game as here PEGI rate it 16+, MW3 is higher due to some offensive content and stuff). We did allow discussion of these but they had to be non-graphic descriptive meaning no details of what actually happens just a general, easy discussion.

Another example is that we would not discuss, nor guess what is ok to run over in the Grand Theft auto - more so if the names are not appropriate.

This forum is about Lego and need I say, more about MLN and it's members.

This is how we found each other and some still stay the course.

Stop looking to other forums for ideas, they are here, the ones who make them

Stick with what you have and concentrate on making it better, btw, The Brickteam is a very cool idea

Agreed this forum is primarily about Lego. I was just trying to provide examples of acceptable G vs PG+ content. It was a contentious topic in the past.

I agree that we can make things 'better' by contributing and displaying a mastery of Lego.

Happy All of our ideas

Post by Tennisdude on Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:00 pm

[This isn't a double post] It was merged into this topic:

The following is a list of all the ideas that you guys have posted, along with whose idea it was. I am only posting the ideas from 2011-2012, as the others are old and may have already been implemented.

Lindavz purchased two more domain names, and there are still some thoughts on how they will be used, along with some other resolved ideas in the following link.
http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13940-suggestions-submitted-and-moving-forward

BioK said we should have a "Featured Member of the Month", and "Featured Member of the Year" at the end of the MLNT year (which is September).
http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13328-featured-user-proposal

SupremeCommanderSturm proposed that we should have more academics related forums. http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13372-more-academics-related-forums His poll won with 6 votes saying yes and 1 vote undecided.

Crackers asked to have more RPGs. http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13789-implementation-of-new-rpg-s

Roddy15 wanted to expand the ‘Other Lego Stuff’ area. http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13654-expand-the-other-lego-stuff-area
His poll won with 9 votes all for the idea.

Tennisdude proposed that we start the newsletter again. http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13412-should-we-start-newsletters-again
His poll won with 12 votes saying yes, 1 saying no, and 4 were undecided

Lindavz asked the users what to do with the LU area. Most were in favor of shrinking it, but not removing it completely. http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13925-lego-universe-area-what-to-do

Legodac suggested that the reputation system be changed in a way to only recieve positive votes.
http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13948-reputation-lo-and-behold-eh

Sim533 said we should have a contest to bring some more activity back, like a posting contest between us and another forum.
http://mlnteam.forumotion.com/t13314-seems-like-we-have-to-start-another-event

There were many other small ideas not posted in a topic as well. A few of these are older ideas. Some were:
Opening the chatbox once or twice a week for users
Changing the rank colors
Raising the quote limit on posts
Change the color of the forum
Making more people VIPs

Please comment on all of these ideas, and be sure to explain why you do or do not like an idea.

I will add more ideas as they are posted here on the innovations board.

I just realized that you had summarized and I merged it into this. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I am sorry that I wasn't clear. I was suggesting even including some of the feedback and polls from months ago that are buried in this topic area. I like what you did. Perhaps we can separate the 'recent' feedback from the previous feedback.
