Post by Tomthewarrior 7/28/2010, 8:00 pm

Brickfair.com wrote:BrickFair, the largest LEGO Fan Festival in the United States, is a blast for the whole family! Held each August near Washington, DC, BrickFair hosts the most dedicated adult LEGO builders and features fantastic LEGO creations great and small.
Hundreds of LEGO enthusiasts come together from across the USA (and Canada, Australia, U.K., and more) to show their best. LEGO buildings, LEGO monsters, trains, cranes, planes and more are spread across 60,000 square feet.

BrickFair is coming!
Aug 7th & Aug 8th, 2010.
(8 days away)
11:00am - 4:00pm
Ever wonder what you could build with unlimited LEGO bricks? Find out at BrickFair! See millions of LEGO bricks assembled in amazing creations great and small. Sprawling trains and towns, BrickFilms, and more.
You'll leave BrickFair with newfound respect for the LEGO brick and the amazing things creative people can do with them!
http://www.brickfair.com/

Once again I'll be attending this event, maybe log or report some cool findings via my Twitter or Buzz accounts(or both). Oh and I'll actually be there most of the time more than likely, probably hanging out at the BZPower booth or wherever people don't get annoyed by my presence(MOCs aren't my thing). So those of you in the DC area or a few hours away should come and check it out when it opens to the public. Tickets are $10/Adults, $7/10 & under, Free/3 & under, $30/Family of 4 for public days, one day only tickets. I'll try and take some pictures of the cooler looking MOCs, maybe everything, it depends.

Brickfair? Wow, you are lucky that you could see it in real life... I have probably to do it with pics and some news articles. I can't wait to see what would happen in the weekend. I hope you could post a long article on what you saw at Brickfair.

I can't promise much, but I'll try. Hopefully my poor cell phone can handle it since I don't think I'll drag a laptop around the whole day.

Ugh so I got back last night around 11:30 pm. Pretty exhausted. But on the good news, I got some pictures and won some sets. Sadly, I didn't take pictures of everything because I just didn't get the chance to. But I got nearly everything and will be uploading them to my deviantArtPHOTOBUCKET account soon. So uhh, expect something soon.

Brickfair 2011
Next year's theme is NASA.

So we arrived in Chantilly, VA Thursday evening during a terrible storm so we didn't go set up at the convention center. So we ended up staying in our Hotel the rest of the day(Staybridge Suites).

Friday my brother and dad left to go setup his MOCs(I have no MOCs). Took my mom forever to get ready so we could go over there(they left at 9, my mom and I left at like 4. >:L) so I didn't take any pictures then. Instead we played Bingo in which my dad won a LEGO City Postal Truck. Then door prizes that the Brickfair people bought. Took forever to have winners though. They either weren't there, were vendors, were staff, or worked for LEGO. After that I placed my Bionicle Crab(The one that came from Mahri Jaller) on the BZPower table(they wanted a bunch of crabs). Around 9:20 we left our hotel room to go to the Tyson's Corner mall(the one with the LEGO Store) for the Running of the Bulls(Discounts for Brickfair people. They bring in a bunch of "damaged"[OH NO THIS LEGO STAR WAR BOX HAS A DENT ON IT] and sell them to us for half off). Started around 10:30pm after bringing in all the damaged goods. It was supposed to run until 1:00 am but apparently went all the way to 2:20 am. With people still going when the head staff member left. (Round 1 - 10:30 ish 330 people, Round 2 - 12 ish 110 people, Round 3 - 1 ish 30 people, Round 4 - 2:20 am give or take 10 people).

Saturday I have nothing to report since we didn't go(trying to get to a birthday party only to fail) . It was the first public day with 9,000+ attendees.

Sunday we hung out there. Kept making sure my brother was at his LEGOs instead of the Brickarms booth(When he wasn't at his booth Friday and Sunday it was safe to assume he went to Brickarms. Which was like 90% of the time until we threatened to never take him to another Brick-something). Took a bunch of photos then since I didn't get to the other day. Second and last public day with 9,000+ paid attendees and 1,000+ free attendees(Brickfair registrants had tickets for friends/family which lets them in for free on Sunday only). There was a lecture on building MOCs Artisitically and something about Architecture. The guy speaking apparently has a Taj Mahal MOC being featured in an Australian film Taj(Taj.com[I think? Don't kill me]). Closing ceremonies took place which some humor took place, LEGO rep threw out some tractor sets to the crowd(brother got one). After that LEGO gave us pretty much everything that was on display there(Not given away? London Bridge and Imperial Landing Shuttle TT-TT[<--River of tears from me]). Sadly it took forever to get winners because people left early, were vendors or worked for LEGO. I won a LEGO City Octane Tanker truck. Halfway through he took us to loot all the snacks that randomly appeared and then held a random Q&A session because it took forever to find winners. Once all the prizes were handed out he told the crowd we could register for next year now and that all the left over Exo-Force sets LEGO Company sent us were ours to take(one each).

So that's Brickfair in a nutshell. I advise you guys to try and make it next year if you're in the area. It's fun and the MOCs are so much cooler in person than in my cruddy Cell Phone photography. Plus all the free goodies the vendors hand out in the early registrant bag.

What day did he go or was he a vendor? Yeah, people put their MOCs out on tables for people to look at behind chain ropes(unless the MOCs were interactive).

Probably not. So many people went, I wouldn't know for sure. I mean, a grand total of 19,000+ people went through those doors not counting the 800 Brickfair registrants.

Yeah. Jumped about 12,000+ from last year reportedly. Probably a good thing we switched from the Sheraton to the Dullis(sp?) Expo Center.

Were you able to meet Arthur Gugick and Jamie Berard (Arthur gave a seminar and Jamie is a set designer)? Also were you able to see the unveiling of set 10214 Tower Bridge?

When was the seminar? I don't think I got a chance to meet Jamie. Yeah, got to see 10214 Tower Bridge.

@Linda: Accidentally, I think I skipped the war booth completely. I'm sure he has pictures of his sets floating around somewhere, probably Brickarms and/or Flickr.
