LEGOUni gone for good.
*Sorry to be the bearer of bad news* Don't know where to put it but..., LEGOuni is down for good due to legal issues with LEGO (What issues?) So please if you joined LEGOuni, we encourage you to get back together at http://legouniversenews.forummotion.com/ Which was cretaed by LEGOFan101.
Well, This stinks. Badly.
Sent to the moderators of LegoUni and now we need to tell it everybody...
As you probably noticed, LegoUni is down. It'll be down for good due to some legal issues from LEGO with Curse. My boss was supposed to give me a week notice before shutting it down but I guess he "forgot". I'll be trying to get in touch with as many people as possible and let them know to come here and if you could do the same, that would be fantastic.
Thanks,
Rishea

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
But I'm confused. I thought Rishea suggested Legouniverse forums?

No, that PM was originally sent to ME, here at Team.
Where did you get it??
If it is posted elsewhere it is without my permission.

I posted it on the LUNF forum and also on LEGO Universe Wikia. It's your quote, i Know.MsRowdyRedhead wrote:Hunthe wrote:But I'm confused. I thought Rishea suggested Legouniverse forums?

Well you apparently made it look like Rishea wanted people to join those forums...
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
Makes sense now. Ok! Signed up. But it could never be as awesome as the original LegoUni.

The original LEGO Uni had Curse money to pay for all the razamataz. It was a GREAT site, but it did violate LEGO's usage rules with logos and images, and Coppa as well. (Children under 13 may NOT publish personal contact info)
The file diving should not have been published either, NOR should have the instructions for the mailbox glitch.
All these things were within Uni or Curses ability to control.

But LEGO's being a bit stuck up with their images, IMO. It's a wonder there's even any fan sites out there.
The mailbox glitch posting also makes sense, but file diving? Seriously? They used that as a reason to shut it down? :S
And you know what else is a little odd to me? LEGO never took the time to point any of this out to us. Someone (like the LU Community Team) could have pointed this out to us, and the members would have been glad to help change it into a LEGO-approved site. Plus they let the community thrive before pulling the plug. Why didn't they do this when it was less important to people, if it's such a big deal? They didn't really even give us a chance.
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
It's silly that they allow all the topics on the LMB's such as the file diving topic of Yhnmko1.
BTW, it's not gone for good, (I don't hope so), it will be back sometime!

The specific violations were pointed out to Curse and they had a chance to change them.. Rishea even said she thought she'd have a weeks final notice, but non of the mods or GM knew,
The file diving is minor compared to the use of LOGO. I highly recommend that those of you who have LU or LEGO sites with the LEGO logo or LU logo or exact background screen as LEGO Universe, OR MLN be on the safe side because LEGO has always gone after sites that do this.. They say so right on their site.
In fact Lindavz posted them at one time...
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
I think they should have alerted the entire community. Or Curse should have. Waking up to a 404 error where a site used to be does not a happy community make.MsRowdyRedhead wrote:Soundragon wrote:COPPA I understand.MsRowdyRedhead wrote:Hunthe wrote:Makes sense now. Ok! File Diving should not even be a reason for a site's closing, no matter how minor a reason. If two of us had been talking about wrecking LU servers, then I could understand it. Not to mention the Ivantest topic they have allowed on their own site.
I know, I've heard of their policy on the use of the logo. They don't seem to get fan sites. But meh, if they wanna be legally overboard then that's their choice. I still don't like it.
Still. Shutting down the entire site over a dad-gum logo is absolutely ridiculous. Unless they plan to allow it to return under a different design, of course.
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
Mess with big corporations and they'll always win . I wonder will they do what Sony did and ask for the ip address of anyone looked at instructions for the mailbox glitch. I think Lego doesn't want fans at all if they don't like fan sites. File diving was the worst reason for legal action ever!

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
THE REAL SCOOP ON WHAT HAPPENED
I spoke to JediGuineapig this morning. Here is what he said:
Jayko kind of made a announcement on a podcast today saying that Lego shut down Lego Uni. soon after that Elementron showed up on the broadcasters skype and said that Lego did not shut down Lego Uni! it was Lego Uni's site master who shut it down. Lego contacted Curse and asked for a few legal issues to be fixed and Curse responded by shutting the whole thing down! that's what Elementron said.
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
So, is there a way to get it back up? Most of the users are now somewhere lost in the desert.
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
MLNO has broadened it's LU Board
LUNF & LEGO Universe Online BOTH have the same LOGO and URL issues as LEGO Uni did, and are in danger if LEGO keeps it up, tho I suspect the went after LEGO Uni because it was a commercial site.

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
It's been over a year, Elementron visited my website several months ago. He even left a comment. Seeing how he's been the one alerting site owners of the problems, you would think he would have mentioned it to me by now if they didn't like the way I'm doing things.MsRowdyRedhead wrote:MLNO has broadened it's LU Board

And as I recall you saying elsewhere, most users wouldn't be as dumb as Curse and just shut down the site. An icon change is simple and quick to complete.

Finally joined MLNO, just waiting on approval.
Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
As I said..
And yes, any changes any of us need to make would be easy, tho I cannot speak to a URL change.
The lovely thing about forums is that there is room for many good forums, and no reason not to join more than one.
I will put you on the OK list!
So no need for panic. MLNO Has LEGO in the name as well, since day one, but not the URL, and no logo/image issues.I suspect they went after LEGO Uni because it was a commercial site.

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
Wow, this is complicated. So did Rishea shut it down? Or Curse itself?

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
Curse did, Rishea never would have without telling us all. She just wouldn't.
On another note, I have been hearing rumors..
1. That the MLNO is not safe
2. That I said everyone HAS to go to the MLNO.
NEITHER is true. I believe the second one started when MY PRIVATE PM was posted elsewhere.
SO:
The MLNO forum was NOT hacked, per se.. The entire forum was DELETED.
No member's account was hacked and no members information was seen.
We lost a year of data because at that time SMF was only doing full forum back=ups once a year.
This will not happen again.
The MLNO is a safe and COPPA compliant forum, and the only staff who can see information are senior admins.
I hope this clarifies anyone's concerns.
In fact in the 4 year history of the MLNO the only time someone's account was hacked was when they themselves enabled access to that account. (Not logging out before leaving public computer or cellphone)
On another note, It has already been a few days, and already I am incredibly tired of all the mud slinging. NO forum has the right to rebuild LEGO Uni. Only Cures does.
MLNO for one will maintain it's sovereignty and identity. We embrace an inclusive community that brings together all brickers in a safe and friendly place.
Every forum is different, and no one has to choose just one. So please, let us just concentrate oh keeping communications between LEGOUni members open, and not which forum is best. I am not in competition with anyone for members. I just want to be able to hang out with my friends.

Re: LEGOUni gone for good.
Hey guys, it kinda stinks about LegoUni, especially since it will be going f2p soon, which would have made it a lot more popular. By the way, does anybody know the particulars with these "legal issues." I heard somewhere that it had something to do with using the word "Lego" in the name. Anyway, nice to see that some of us are still around, hopefully another quality fan site will pop up for the game soon.

Ah.. don't get your hopes up... another friend pointed this out to me..
It says the hardware failure happened 48 hours ago. I'm thinking they put the notice up on all the domains they host, whether active or not. I guess we'll find out by the end of today
